The life cycle of the flower
Dancer: Muthawi Alhandam

Choreographer: Muthawi Alhandam
Music: Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton

The life cycle of a flower mirrors the cycle of life and relationships. A seed is planted, representing new beginnings. As it grows, the flower faces obstacles like harsh weather or poor soil, yet it stays resilient, adapting and reaching for the light. It blooms beautifully, much like how people and relationships flourish with care and perseverance. Over time, the flower fades, just as life and connections evolve or end. Yet, it leaves behind seeds for new growth, showing how challenges and endings often lead to fresh starts and the continuation of all living things.

An Ode to My Younger Self
Dancer: Becca Buwalda
Choreographer: Becca Buwalda
Music: What was I Made For by Billy Eilish

My piece is entitled "an ode to my younger self". The song is exploring the feeling of what it means to be made, and what exactly my purpose is in life. As I've gotten older and now figured out my purpose in life, this song reflects on the feeling that I used to feel about not knowing my purpose, and an acknowledgement of how far I've come since then.

Perception-NIA
Dancer: Nia Doyley
Choreographer: Nia Doyley
Music: Pyramid Song by Radiohead.

My piece is about someone who is fighting against the negative perceptions and assumptions about them. At first they take the ideas as their own, and believe the things that other people are saying about them, they accept society's ideas and it turns in on the person as a negative self-image. However, then they learn to let it go and redefine themselves in truth and confidence.

When the Party’s Over
Dancer: Ella Leggat
Choreographer: Ella Leggat
Music: "When the Party's over" by Billie Eilish

This song is a very emotional piece. It describes how I feel in my head when I’m stressed out and overwhelmed. My body resonates to the movement of the music as I emotionally connect to it. It is more of a slower movement allowing me to fully express all the moves in the fullest way.

Silence between beats
Dancer: Shayla Polo
Choreographer: Shayla Polo
Music: Out of Time by The Weeknd

Through my dance to Out of Time by The Weeknd, I’m using what we’ve learned in class about incorporating different levels to create contrast—like sharp, low movements to show tension and higher, flowy moves to represent letting go. The mix of sharp and soft movements creates a balance that reflects the mood of the song. My song being Ann instrumental version leaves the slight pauses in my dance to be more prominent. I’m focusing on connecting with the music and making my movements feel natural. It’s less about a big emotional message and more about exploring how I can physically express the vibe of the song through what we’ve practiced in class.

Loss in the City

"Loss in the City" is about the sense of desperation and pain a person feels when the plans they had made for themselves and the things they were looking forward to don't come to fruition. The dance displays a tragedy about the loss of one's previously strong and passionate sense of optimism after continuous suffering.
